a bit about my dramaturgy
An Immersive & Socially Conscious Approach
As a dramaturg and theatre practitioner, I have always asked the essential question, "Why now?" When I serve as a dramaturg, I work with the director, the actors, and the audience to continuously examine what is the importance of this story in our society at this specific cultural moment.
I have had the opportunity to put this mindset into practice with productions drawings crowds of hundreds of audience members. Additionally, I have had the opportunity to meet and interview Academy Award-winning Tarrell Alvin McCraney in a talkback while serving as the dramaturg for The Theatre School's production of Wig Out! In 2017, I worked with Off-Broadway playwright Mickle Mahr on his new play, Michael Jordan in Lilliput. Most recently, I worked as a Dramaturgy and Education Intern at the Semperoper in Dresden, Germany assisting in dramaturgical research, translations, and every day in the rehearsal room for their most recent production of "Die Verkaufte Braut."
Below are a sampling of the productions that I have worked on as a dramaturg along with some of the accompanying documents that I created for those productions. If you would further samples of my dramaturgical portfolio such as sections of my researched actor packets, please contact me at trisha@trishamahoney.com.

Mr. Burns
What would you hold sacred if everything you knew was destroyed? In three acts, Mr. Burns, a Post-Electric Play is the story of survival and reinvention in a post-apocalyptic world. What starts as a group of friends casually recounting a Simpson’s episode morphs—over the course of more than 80 years—into a completely new form of storytelling.

Wig Out
Welcome to the underground drag scene, a place where many gay men create families for themselves. The legendary House of Lights is one such family. As they prepare for a competitive ball with a rival house, each member confronts their identity within the family. Wig Out! is an electrifying tale of community, queer sub-culture, and sexuality by Theatre School alumnus Tarell Alvin McCraney.

Michael Jordan in Lilliput
What happens when the tiny inhabitants of a secluded island seek to join the developed world and form a basketball team? When one of their players, a down-at-heel American journeyman named Michael Jordan (not the Michael Jordan), won't shoot or pass the ball, he ensures a losing season for his vertically-challenged team. Playing out entirely in the Q and A format of post-game conferences, Michael Jordan in Lilliput combines the fantastical with the mundane and the expansive with the irrelevant.

Cat in the Hat
Sally and her brother are bored on a rainy day, when the Cat in the Hat appears with tricks and things and games to play. Their day is filled with mischief and imagination despite protests from their fish. That is, until their mom returns home. Join us for Dr. Seuss’ classic children’s story that illustrates boredom is truly just a state of mind.
